PERSPECTIVES
The major goal of the further studies is to understand the signalling dysregulation and to identify the dysfunctional molecules of vascular cells in pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypercholesterolemia and hypertension. Such molecules may be further tailored into new generation of drugs able to ameliorate the impact of metabolic syndrome disturbances on vascular wall.
We also plan to uncover the role of growth factors in human vascular smooth muscle cells dysfunction in diabetes mellitus and check the potential of natural polyphenolic derivatives (sirtuins activators) to modulate vascular cells energetics and inflammation in experimental diabetes/obesity.
To assess the implications of circulating microparticles, platelets and EPCs in experimental hypertension-hypercholesterolemia.
The new equipment acquired by the CARDIOPRO project will be exploited in the forthcoming research of the Department. Equally, we will benefit of the new equipments of the Cell Culture laboratory, the new facilities of the Experimental Modelling Platform, and the up-dated technology implemented in the other departments of the institute.
