Concept
The main objective of the proposed project was to facilitate the preparation of a joint FP7 grant proposal via scientific networking between scientists from the participant research institutions in Romania and Germany, through trans-national two-way exchanges of research staff. Preparatory missions and short-term, as well as pilot investigations of feasibility created a favourable framework for the preparation of a FP7 grant proposal and consolidation of our ongoing collaborations. An excellent collaboration between participant institutions has already led to the generation of promising preliminary research data on cardiovascular regeneration using adult stem/progenitor cells. Our current research goals aim at optimisation of current methodologies and development of novel methods to achieve in vitro functional differentiation of human stem and progenitor cells (i.e. endothelial progenitor cells, cardiomyocytes) for alternative testing and regenerative medicine applications. Therefore, we decided to join our efforts and apply for the FP7 open call HEALTH.2010.4.2.9-2 - Exploitation of organ-simulating cellular devices as alternatives for long-term toxicity testing,with applicationdeadline on February 13th, 2010, which mirrors our ongoing research interests. The FP7 project application, called “Multi Organ Chip for Human cell based Alternative testing MOCHA” is a large-scale integrating project (IP) comprising 17 institutions from 9 European countries.
The results of CORES project were disseminated within the workshop “On Route from Stem Cell Biology from Clinical Applications for Cardiovascular Regeneration” organized at the Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology “Nicolae Simionescu” on 19th and 20th of February, 2010, with the participation of German partners participating to “CORES”.
