On 29 June 2026, the centenary of Professor Nicolae Simionescu was commemorated. Professor Simionescu was a co-founder of the "Nicolae Simionescu" Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology (ICBP-NS) of the Romanian Academy and one of the pioneers of modern cell biology in Romania.
The commemorative event was organized by the Biological Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy, in partnership with the Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology "Nicolae Simionescu". The session, entitled The Legacy and Scientific Contributions of Academician Nicolae Simionescu, was held in the Aula of the Romanian Academy.
The event was opened by Academician Maya Simionescu followed by presentations highlighting Professor Nicolae Simionescu's pioneering scientific achievements, his enduring legacy, and his lifelong commitment to educating and mentoring future generations of researchers.
The ceremony brought together members of Professor Simionescu's family, representatives of the Romanian Academy, members of the scientific community, long-standing collaborators, and young researchers from the ICBP-NS community.
The event provided an opportunity to honor Professor Nicolae Simionescu's outstanding scientific legacy, reflect on his lasting impact on biomedical research, and celebrate the values of excellence, dedication, and mentorship that continue to inspire new generations of scientists.
